Failed Films LA seeks to showcase artists at all stages of their expression and from all walks of life. We seek to celebrate those among us who function on the periphery, bringing them into focus. We seek to subvert the long-held ideals and traditions that leave many excluded. Failed Films is here, ready, and waiting to embrace the radical self-expression and wildly imaginative antics that you and yours dare to share.
All of Failed Films’ festival profits go directly back to our artists, enabling them to continue making work. Since its inception in Fall 2016, our events have successfully featured over a hundred pieces of art, carving out a much needed space for new work and emerging artists. Our goal is to become a sustainable quarterly event that is able to provide grants, resources, and an audience for local artwork with a non-traditional approach.
About the Fall 2018 Curatorial Team:
antone is a restless and faithful artist currently residing in The City of Angels. Through his art he seeks to disarm and encourage people to open doors for one another, chance as much heartbreak as possible, and become more vulnerable. He tells his stories through film making, writing, photo taking, illustrating, dancing, acting, performance art and flower picking.
Lauren West is a costume designer and collage artist working out of Los Angeles, California. Lauren sources editorials from mid-century to late 1970's publications including Life and Playboy magazine to extract and reassemble images focusing on themes of feminism, sexuality, and vulnerability. With Failed Films she hopes to nurture and embolden emerging artists to be as shamelessly raw and uninhibited as possible, while creating a physical space for their work to come to life.
Nikki Darling has been a sex worker advocate, sex educator, porn performer, and performance artist for the last seven years. She is a Lusty Lady Alumni. Her film director debut, True Colors with Kira Noir, was screened at Failed Films Festival in Oakland in 2016. She was a speaker to over 200 people at the recent Sex Workers & Community Protest to Oppose FOSTA/SESTA in Oakland in June of 2018. Outside of her busy as shit schedule, you can often catch her playing head chef in her own kitchen, serving gourmet cuisine to all her friends and family. Nikki is currently working on a film that will capture the essence of black, female orgasms through their facial expressions. Follow her work on Twitter: @nikki_darlingxo
Suzy Sounds is a Los Angeles based music producer and supervisor working with innovative and new artists across platforms. Suzy Sounds works for the freaks, the kinks and the weirdos to help them execute their vision and realize their potential.
