FAILED FILMS PRESENTS A BENEFIT FOR BAY AREA WORKERS SUPPORT
Join us for an outdoor movie night, showcasing a dozen local sex worker artists. This event seeks to subvert the long-held ideals and traditions that leave many excluded from traditional film festivals. Failed Films is here, ready, and waiting to embrace the radical self-expression and wildly imaginative antics that you and yours dare to share.
All proceeds go to BAWS’ Emergency Grant Fund.
This event is part of the Bay Area Sex Worker Film Festival.
About the Curatorial Team:
antone is a restless and faithful artist currently residing in The City of Angels. Through his art he seeks to disarm and encourage people to open doors for one another, chance as much heartbreak as possible, and become more vulnerable. He tells his stories through film making, writing, photo taking, illustrating, dancing, acting, performance art and flower picking.
Lauren West is a costume designer and collage artist working out of Los Angeles, California. Lauren sources editorials from mid-century to late 1970's publications including Life and Playboy magazine to extract and reassemble images focusing on themes of feminism, sexuality, and vulnerability. With Failed Films she hopes to nurture and embolden emerging artists to be as shamelessly raw and uninhibited as possible, while creating a physical space for their work to come to life.
About the Founders:
Grace Van Ness is a multimedia artist with a background in documentary film and photography. Her work has appeared in publications like Playboy and The Bay Bridged, and has been featured at a number of film festivals, including La Fete du Slip, CineKink NYC, and the San Francisco Bay Area Sex Worker Film and Art Festival. She currently works as a freelance video editor and animator.
Jonah Strauss is a production designer for rock and roll bands, and has toured internationally with indie luminaries such as Arcade Fire, TV on the Radio, and Blonde Redhead. He currently runs Survivor Sound, an Oakland-based analog recording studio and live concert recording service.
Christopher Gates is a Bay Area creator and producer. You can find his fingerprints on local productions such as We’re Still Working: The Art of Sex Work visual art exhibition and event series at SOMArts, the Ask First Consent Campaign, and Cum & Glitter - A Live Sex Show. He is currently feeding himself by working in media. Feast or famine, Christopher is dedicated to cultivating opportunities and spaces for Bay Area artists.
Note: all performers and attendees must be over the age of 18.
These events are nonprofit. All proceeds above operating expenses go to the artists. Please contact us if you are interested in funding commissions for this or future events.
